Breaking News...

Kirsty Wark on Newsnight Thurs. 1st December as an aside during a debate on the Eurozone/economic situation said, “It’s now reported that the PM no longer believes in climate change!”

If this is so it is a serious matter. Our captain of ‘Titanic’ doesn’t believe icebergs exist! HELP! It’s full steam ahead, everyone! (ever had that sinking feeling?!)

Editors note – If I were a cartoonist (because I’m not an excellent drawer I need to resort to written cartooning – it’s called metaphor!)

I would place Cameron in front of a huge tank of liquid which bears a hazard sign stating ‘flamable, volatile solution’ which is leaking badly around his feet. He, meanwhile, is jumping up and down on flaming £ banknotes that three men with flamethrowers are igniting. They are labelled as ‘hedgefunder, corporate & super- rich’. The PM is so busy trying to stop the £ notes from burning that he fails to notice the greater hazard pouring out behind him!

So you’re concerned about Climate Change?
The Climate Change Movement is vast, including a myriad of organisations worldwide. It is not practical to join together organisationally in time to act effectively on climate change.

What do you think?
This is the new potential logo for the whole of the Climate Change Movement.

We need an instantly understood worldwide logo that gets noticed, shows how big we are & how important the issue is to overall survival.

A shared symbolic logo is the simplest, basic form of unity.

This logo says it ALL by universal, visual means. USE IT! Get us noticed!

JOINED AS ONE we cannot be ignored. Use the symbol – GET NOTICED!

Together we can do something on climate change – fragmented we fail.

Titanic Night 14th/15th April 2012
Event planned in Gloucestershire, Nr. HQ, looking for help to set up Central London Event. Contact Us

The Titanic Story is a worldwide known historical event which is as good a metaphor as we can hope for, to show the climate change situation that we face presently. The centenary of its sinking occurs on the night of 14/15th April, 2012. With the world’s press predictably going to be hungry for any item on the subject, there is currently no major event planned worldwide. If the loss is marked respectfully and at the same time encourages us to act to save many lives in the future, by acting responsibly and in time on climate change, then it is an opportunity that we in the Climate Change Movement mustn’t miss.

At 999 Planet in Peril we are planning a local event in Gloucestershire (the internal woodwork fittings for Titanic were made in Cheltenham) to mark the event, when 3,000 plus candles representing the lives on board will be lit and those lost in the tragedy, extinguished at the time of the sinking in the early hours outside Gloucester Cathedral. Displays nearby will show the historical side of the tragedy, what has been learnt from it and the parallel it runs with the climate change situation that we face today.

If you are reading this and would like to get involved with this event either in Gloucestershire or maybe help provide an event in Central London (which was originally proposed, but turned down by the major organisations) please contact us. We believe that there is a once in a lifetime opportunity to get world attention for climate change using its best ever much used historical metaphor.

What makes 999 Planet in Peril different to any other initiative on climate change?

Global Climate Emergency

"The situation is much worse than we are told by those in power and much worse than the day to day discussion in the media would suggest."

Tom Burke: War passes: the climate is for ever

We humans are better at dealing with crises than long-term problems. The future could judge us harshly.
"We have one chance to reach an agreement to reduce emissions in time. This is the year"

If you would like to help our planet by hosting an event at home, work or elsewhere please get in touch. Contact us to join in.
